Instructions for Use of Graphite Electrodes
1
Before connecting the electrode, first thoroughly clean the threads on the electrode. When carefully screwing the coupling onto one end of the electrode, simultaneously screw the lifting coupling onto the other end of the electrode—taking care not to damage the threads. It is not recommended to directly install the coupling onto an electrode that is already in use in the furnace.
2
Absolutely no steel wool or metal brushes, nor sandpaper, should be used to clean the electrode threads. Only compressed air free of oil and water may be used for cleaning.
3
To use the elastic hook with a rotatable feature, place a soft support pad beneath the electrode connector to prevent damage to the threads.
4
Before connecting the electrodes, the holes should be thoroughly cleaned with compressed air that is free of oil and water.
5
Use an elastic hook to lift and transport the electrode to the furnace, align it precisely with the center, lower it slowly, gently rotate it into place, and then tighten it securely with a hoop ring.
6
Tighten using a dedicated caliper at the specified torque—either mechanically, hydraulically, or with pneumatic equipment—until the designated torque is reached.
7
If the end faces of the two electrodes do not make contact or if the contact pressure is too high, normal operation will be affected.
8
The electrode holder must be positioned outside the two white warning lines. The contact surface between the holder and the electrode should be cleaned regularly to ensure good electrical contact. The cooling water jacket of the holder must be kept completely leak-free.
9
To prevent electrode breakage, no insulating material blocks should be loaded into the furnace. The operating current of the electrode must be compatible with the electrode’s allowable current specified in the instruction manual.
10
To prevent the electrode from breaking, place larger pieces at the bottom and smaller pieces at the top.
