Graphite electrode instructions

1
1
Before connecting the graphite electrodes, the socket bolt threads need to be cleaned first. A nipple should be screwed into one socket of the electrode, the lifting plug should be screwed into the other socket on the other side. Damaging the bolt threads due to carelessness should always be avoided. It is not advisable to screw in a nipple into the socket of an electrode that is being used.
2
2
Metal scourer, metal brush, and sanding paper should never be used to clean socket/nipple bolt thread. Only compressed air without water and grease should be used for cleaning purposes.
3
3
Before lifting up the electrode, some means of cushion should be put under the connected nipple so that the bolt threads on the nipple would not be damaged on the ground. Elastic crane hook that could be rotated should be used to hook onto the lifting plug in order to lift up the electrode from the ground.
4
4
Before connecting the electrodes, the socket should be cleaned by using compressed air free of grease and water.
5
5
Use the elastic crane hook to lift the new electrode above another electrode that is being used in the furnace. Slowly adjust the position of the lifted electrode and lower the nipple of the lifted electrode onto the socket of the other electrode that is being used. Carefully screw the nipple into the socket and tighten the connection with a torque wrench(tightening hoop).
6
6
The electrodes connection should be further tightened with the appropriate torque by using mechanical, hydraulic, or wind pressure tightening device.
7
7
Not tightening the graphite electrode connection properly or over tightening the connection would affect normal usage. Please refer to the appropriate torque necessary specified in the table of torque on page 10.
8
8
The graphite electrodes should always be held by the furnace holder outside of the two white lines written on the electrode body. In order to maintain good contact between the holder and the electrode, the side of the furnace holder touching the electrode should be cleaned frequently. Water should never leak out from the water cooling cover on the furnace holder.
9
9
ln order to prevent electrode breakage, the furnace should never be loaded with insulation blocks. The actual working electric current of the electrode should be adjusted below the maximum electric current level specified in the graphite electrode specification of different grades.
10
10
Bigger metal scraps should always be loaded at the bottom of the electric arc furnace while the smaller metal scraps are loaded above to prevent possible electrode breakages.
